Services > Custom Development
You are large enough, and specific enough, that the software built for everyone else no longer fits. At that point the answer is not another platform. It is an application built from the ground up around how your business actually runs.
For most of what a real estate business runs on, an established platform is the right answer, and we will tell you so. Custom development is not where most problems get solved, and it is not where we start.
But large, mature operations reach a point where the market stops fitting. Your portfolio is bigger than the tools were designed for. Your process is specific in ways no vendor will accommodate, because no other client needs what you need. You have outgrown the software the way you outgrow a system you have pushed past its limits. The tools on the market are round pegs, and what you have is a square hole.
That is the point where building makes sense. Not because building is better in general, but because in that particular place, nothing you can buy will do the job.
What We Build
We are builders, not outsourced support. Sometimes the right answer is a brand-new application built from the ground up. Sometimes it is a purpose-built addition to a system you already run. The assessment tells us which, and we are equally happy to do either.
(Path A) A new application, built from the ground up
When your operation needs something the market does not offer, we build it from a blank sheet. A standalone application designed around the way your business actually works, including the parts of the process that live in people's heads and never made it into a manual. It is yours, built to your specification.
(Path B) A purpose-built addition to what you already run
When a platform you already run does most of what you need, we build the part it does not. A robust addition with its own logic, built to work inside that system and add the capability it was missing. You keep the platform your team knows, and you get what it could not do on its own.
How It Runs
We start with the operational problem, not a specification. Specifications written before this step tend to describe the workaround, not the fix.
We establish that no established platform can close the gap, and that the need is specific enough to justify building. If a tool on the market would do the job, you hear that from us first, and you save the cost of a build you did not need.
We map the application to your real process, including the informal steps. Software that ignores how the work is truly done gets abandoned in the first quarter.
We start with visioning, shaping what the application should become before any code is written. From there, work is delivered in stages rather than revealed at the end.
We connect the application to the systems it needs to work with, so it holds its place in your stack and the data moves the way it should.
This service exists because you want to own what you run. We turn the application over to you. In some cases we stay on to support it, but ownership is the point, and the terms are set with you in the contract.
Why you can trust the recommendation
We are not tied to a single platform, and we are not paid to place one system over another. We work with whatever you already run, and when the right answer is a tool you own, or even a competitor's, that is what we will tell you. Custom development is what we recommend only when nothing on the market fits, not as a default.
We also build and operate our own platform. Velocity Properties is a PropTech platform we developed, maintain, and run for commercial real estate operators. It is the reason we can speak plainly about what a from-scratch build actually takes, because we have carried one ourselves and we live with the result.
